Going Cruelty Free

March 29, 2011
leaping bunny:CCIC symbol

First, imagine that you are living life as usual: eating, breathing, sleeping, moving about as you please.  Now picture being strapped into a small containment unit where then only thing you can move  are your eyes. Your eyes, which will have various chemicals such as bleach dropped into them by scientists.  Why? Because you are a animal used for product testing.

Animal testing is an obsolete and cruel method still used today by many companies.  Enough data has been collected over the years for chemical testing on animals to become unnecessary especially since alternatives such as in vitro testing have come into existence.  I used to think that animal testing was only done on mice, but lethal and painful tests are done on rabbits, cats, dogs, guinea pigs, birds, primates, farmed animals, and even fish.

I’m posting this because although it seems like almost every company is animal testing, some companies are not.  If you buy non-animal tested products you can help encourage stopping animal testing.  It’s important to know which companies test and which don’t it can be very confusing trust me.  Luckily CCIC(Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics) and PETA(People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) both have lists and shopping guides to help with the process.

If a product is approved cruelty free it will have a picture of the leaping bunny symbol (pictured top right) on the item.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Shoppin’ Post. Hazzah!

July 13, 2010

Why? Because I felt like it. Could I have done a post on something else? Probably, but I was in the mood to browse, and annoy Mike with a shopping post. Did you like that little ‘mini answer the imaginary viewer’s imaginary questions session’? good stuff.

About That Oil Spill..

June 23, 2010

Here’s the reality of the situation– and it’s a bad one. You have to be a pretty heartless person not to feel disturbed by these images. As cheese-ball as you may think this sounds the gulf needs our help, especially the wildlife, which is why i’ve pulled up some sites that give info on ways that you can help.
