Wishing These Shows Were Not Canceled

November 15, 2009

I don’t usually get into TV shows that are on before midnight, but it seems like when i actually do, those shows get the boot. Right now the only show that I watch regularly are True Blood, which is entertaining.

My previous favorites were canceled in there second season; Pushing Daisies and Dead Like Me( both created my Bryan Fuller). I miss these shows, and I wish they would get picked up by another station.

Just in case you are not familiar with either show, here’s the run down:

Pushing Daisies: Is about a man named Ned, who can bring the dead back to life for one minute by touching them. He has to touch them again before one minute is up, or else some one will die in their place.

It sounds odd, but it was a great show, with excellent performances by, Lee Pace(Ned), Anna Friel(Chuck), Chi McBride(Emerson), Kristin Chenoweth(Olive), Ellen Greene (Vivian), and Swoosie Kurtz (Lily).

Dead Like Me: An unhappy girl is killed by a toilet seat from a space station. After finding out she is dead she is assigned a job as a grim reaper. She has to reap a certain quota of lives before she well be able to “pass on”.

Really Really miss this show, and once again we are now missing out on fantastic performances by: Ellen Muth (Georgia), Callum Blue(Mason), Jasmine Guy(Roxy), Mandy Patinkin(Rube), and Laura Harris(Daisy).

Come on Networks, pick up this shows! Please 😦

Playlist of the Day: Older Tunes

November 15, 2009

All this week I’m going to post a new playlist everyday. For today, I’ve chosen some older songs that I enjoy listening to. Yes, I realize that Oasis is not as old as some of these bands/artists, but the song fits in well and I have it on a similar iPod playlist along with others from this list. A good number of these songs (as well as many others that I’ll share throughout the week) have been big inspirations for me when it comes to imagining ideas for stories. Maybe you’ll be inspired too. At the very least, I hope you enjoy. Without further adieu, here’s today’s playlist:

1.) Marvin Gaye – “Can I Get A Witness”
2.) Oasis – “Don’t Go Away
3.) Blue Oyster Cult – “Don’t Fear The Reaper”
4.) The Cars – “Good Times Roll”
5.) The Rolling Stones – “Gimme Shelter”
6.) Echo and the Bunnymen – “The Killing Moon”
7.) Ray Charles – “Just For A Thrill”
8.) K.C. and the Sunshine Band – “I’m Your Boogie Man”
9.) Albert Hammond – “It Never Rains in Southern California”
10.) Tears for Fears – “Head Over Heels”
11.) Johnny Cash – “Hurt”

You Only Think You’re Free

The Prisoner

http://www.amctv.com/originals/the-prisoner/premiere/

Tomorrow at 8 pm on AMC the new remake of The Prisoner premieres. I’ve been waiting this from the  moment I saw the commercial for it a week ago. If you like movies like The Matrix, Mad Max, Watchmen and the Truman Show or TV shows like Lost and Alias (which i do) then you’ll love this. Staring the talented Ian Mckellen of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and Jim Caviezel of The Count of Monte Cristo and Deja Vu this show promises to be the TV Event of the Year! (And that’s a pretty damn big promise)

This show original premiered in September 1967 and it sent ripples though the Media World influencing TV, music, movies, and art for decades. And lucky you (if you’re interested) you can watch full episodes online at their site.

In the new show a man, played by Jim Caviezel, wakes up in a strange world where only “The Village” exists and there is nothing else. He has lost everything, family, friends, and even his own name. Referred to as the number Six, he tries to escape and get back to his precious New York. His biggest advisory Two, played by Ian Mckellen, does everything in his power to convince Six that this is the world and there is nothing else out there, that he is mentally ill and” there  is no out; there is only in!”

I love shows and movies that tackle the philosophical ideas of defining reality, right and wrong, freedom, and madness. I think my favorite definition for real comes from The Matrix when Morpheus explains what the Matrix is to Neo; he says “if  real is what you can feel, smell, taste and see, then ‘real’ is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain”. In that case who’s to say we aren’t in the matrix and The Village is all around us?

Don’t forget to tune in tomorrow at 8 and  ask yourself “Who’s watching you?”
