Pickles, Now Available at Your Local Blockbuster

I don’t know who made this decision or what their reasoning was, but Blockbuster now sells individually wrapped pickles. I can’t vouch for other stores, but at our store they are located at the cash register.

Now, what’s the stranger fact? That we’re selling pickels or that they’re actually one of our hottest selling items right now? Seriously. I walked in last week and asked why the hell we were selling pickles. I couldn’t imagine anyone wanting a pickle to snack on when they’re watching a movie. But I was proven wrong because these things are selling like crazy.

From what I’ve seen, there are two basic types of customers: The first type of customer makes up about a third of all customers. They’ll see the pickles and either laugh their asses off or make some joke to their significant other. The other type of customer, which makes up the other two thirds of all customers, looks at the pickles and are immediately sold. Sometimes they grab one and buy it without a second thought. Others will be drawn to them like a holy grail and they’ll check out each pickle before selecting just the right one to buy.

For example of the dedication some customers have to pickles, in the last three shifts I’ve worked there has been this one guy who comes in for the sole purpose of buying a pickle. He comes in, pays for his pickle, and leaves. He has no interest in renting movies. He just loves him some pickles.

Netflix and Redbox may have cheaper rates, and with the former you don’t even have to leave your house to enjoy a film, but do either of these companies offer pickles to their customers? No they do not. And that’s what Blockbuster’s bringing to the table.

Now if Redbox installs a pickle dispenser, we’re all screwed.
